In the beautiful setting of Solsborough House, we meet novelist Martina Devlin, author of Edith. Martina’s biographical novel reveals the life of Edith Somerville, (of Sommerville and Ross fame) as she battles to save her beloved Drishane House against a backdrop of Civil War politics and lawlessness erupting across the country via IRA flying columns. Dr. Terence Dooley, author of the recent study Burning the Big House: The Story of the Irish Country House in a Time of War and Revolution will talk about the destruction of nearly 300 Irish Country Houses during the revolutionary years 1912 -1923.
