Edwina Knight is a local artist whose oil paintings are inspired by her experience of swimming in Lough Derg. Each artwork captures the dance of light and colour in the water, reflecting both its serenity and turbulence. The lake is her muse, symbolising the complex emotions we all face. She invites you to connect with nature and enjoy her fun semi abstract paintings.

Artist’s Statement: “Immersions: The Art of Lake Swims”
Water has always been a source of life, serenity, and transformation. My oil paintings are rooted in the quiet ritual of lake swims, a practice that immerses me in the rhythms of nature and my own consciousness. Each stroke of my brush seeks to capture the textures, moods, and elusive light of these moments where the boundary between body and water dissolves, leaving only the dance of colour, movement, and reflection.
The lake, for me, is both muse and mirror. Its ever-changing surface, sometimes serene, sometimes turbulent, parallels the human experience.
I am particularly drawn to the interplay of light and shadow, the way water holds onto colour, and the fleeting nature of ripples, reflections and refractions. My paintings aim to distil these moments into something tangible, inviting viewers to step into my experience of the lake, to feel it’s cool embrace, its quiet hum, its energy and its expansive calm.
Each canvas is an act of immersion. It is a return to a place where I am simultaneously grounded and free. In translating these swims into oil paintings, I hope to convey the universal solace found in nature’s embrace and the beauty of connecting with a world that exists beyond words.
