Martin Hayes – Shared Notes, Sunday 12th October, 8pm, €40
Martin Hayes is regarded as one of the most significant talents to emerge in the world of Irish traditional music. He is the founder of the musical supergroup The Gloaming, The Common Ground Ensemble and the Martin Hayes Quartet. Martin will play and discuss his musical journey described in his memoir ‘Shared Notes’.
‘This book traces a musical thread and a life story that goes all the way from my beginnings on a small farm with horse-drawn machinery, with a father who played the fiddle and a one-room schoolhouse, to a life of musical performance and collaboration on stages all over the world’.
Local musician, Brian Morrissey, will moderate the event. Brian has lectured at the Irish World Academy of Music & Dance at UL. He is creator and producer of ‘Pulses of Tradition’ the Cork based traditional Irish music, song and dance multi-media experience. Brian is also the director of The Lee Sessions, Cork city’s traditional session series.
